Welcome to The Traveling Wheelbarrows

fender Hello! We're happy you stopped by. You may think it's a strange name for a group of musicians, and if you think it's derived from The Traveling Wilburys, you'd be right. But you have to admit -- The Traveling Wheelbarrows is pretty funny, and much more descriptive of a merry band of troubadours with nowhere near the fame nor fortune of Jeff, Roy, Tom, George, and Bob.

Our music is all original, with flavors of country, western, folk, soft rock, Americana, and home. Our songs are heartfelt, sad, funny, imaginative, and sometimes, a bit out there. If you visualize a bunch of folks sitting around a campfire with smores and guitars, you hit the nail on the head. That's us.

We all have strong ties to Idaho, and even when we leave the state, she eventually draws us back home with her mountains, farmland, and majestic rivers and lakes.

So pull up a chair with us on the porch, sit back with a cold beverage or a hot cup of coffee, and listen or play along. You're more than welcome to join in the fun. And welcome!

Meet the Wheelbarrows

Cory Webster, also known as The Haywire Cowboy, lives with his wife in rural Idaho, where they operate a cow/calf cattle operation known as The Haywire Ranch. Cory says he cannot honestly recall a moment when music wasn't an important part of his life. As a very young boy, he was exposed to the folk music of the early 60's, then the renaissance of great folk rock, country rock and many amazing singer songwriters from the 70's, which captured his heart forever. From an early age, Cory began making up songs and learning to accompany himself on guitar, banjo, harmonica and fiddle. His earliest memory performing was playing harmonica, bass and stage organ in a band at 14 years old. Cory has continued to perform, learn and write songs throughout his life. He hosted the Unitarian Coffee House in Salt Lake City for several years and co-hosted a drive time radio show on KRCL in Salt Lake for a few years in the 1980's called "Homegrown Utah." Cory has been a member of several folk, traditional, and old timey bands over the years. He continues to write songs and poetry about the world around him. His goal in songwriting is to express a feeling or mood in music and words. Cory tries to capture a time and place with his songs that can then be relived and shared with others through performance.

kevin

Kevin Etherton lives in Maryland with his wife and their three children, and works in Washington, DC at the Smithsonian Institution. Born and raised in North Idaho, Kevin grew up in a small log cabin his dad built on an original homestead property. It was there that he learned to play guitar and write music. With deep ties to the people and places of Idaho, Kevin is a frequent contributor to the Idaho Songwriters Association's online monthly forum. He also recently traveled to Boise to play a set of his original music at an event in Idaho City. Kevin makes his way back home as often as possible, and you can still find him with his guitar, playing and making music in that same little log cabin in the woods. Kevin looks forward to retirement in a couple of years to focus on his songwriting.

Tim

Tim Wittner is a self-taught guitarist. He started playing at 11 years old after buying an F-hole Harmony for $3.00 from his neighbor in Needles, California. Tim remembers listening to his dad and uncles as their band performed on the local radio station in Coffeyville, Kansas. He played with numerous bands in his youth, and currently plays with a small classic rock band in Cozumel, Mexico. Tim fell in love with Idaho when he spent time there with Deb. Tim and Deb are frequent contributors to the Idaho Songwriters Association's online monthly forum. Tim is the "Okay, we need a melody for this song "guy when Deb creates a set of lyrics.

Deb

Deb Wittner was born and raised in Boise, Idaho, but as a kid, she spent her summers in the backcountry. She is the principal songwriter for "Team Tim and Deb" and has always loved music - ALL kinds of music. Raised by two music-loving parents, Deb had early exposure to the classics of the 40s and 50s, and grew up with the soundtrack of the 60s and 70s in her head. Deb and Tim are frequent contributors to the Idaho Songwriters Association's online monthly forum. Deb doesn't play an instrument, so she's grateful for Tim's guitar ability. Deb says that without him, her lyrics would never find a voice.
